అమెరికాలోని బ్రాన్సన్ నగరంలో ప్రదర్శితమయ్యే 'సైట్ అండ్ సౌండ్' (Sight & Sound) ప్రదర్శన ఒక నిరుపమమైన దృశ్య కావ్యం. మిరుమిట్లు గొలిపే కాంతులు, మంత్రముగ్ధులను చేసే సంగీతం, ఆ వేదికపై క్రమశిక్షణతో అటు ఇటు పరిగెత్తే చిన్నారి గొర్రెలు ప్రేక్షకులను ఒక అద్భుత లోకంలోకి తీసుకెళ్తాయి. అది ఒక గొప్ప కోలాహలం. కానీ, మనం దైవ గ్రంథంలో చూసే దావీదు అసలు కథ ఈ వెలుగుల వెనుక, నిశ్శబ్దమైన అరణ్యంలో మొదలైంది. ఒక మనిషి యొక్క అపురూపమైన పిలుపును అర్థం చేసుకోవాలంటే, మనం లోకపు తళుకుబెళుకులను (Limelight) దాటి, తెర వెనుక ఉన్న నిగూఢ సత్యాలను చూడాలి. రాజరికం అనే వెలుగులోకి రాకముందు, ఒక సామాన్య గొర్రెల కాపరిగా దావీదు గడిపిన ఆ వినమ్రమైన జీవితమే ఆయన భవిష్యత్తుకు పునాది వేసింది.

 తెర వెనుక జీవితం: గొర్రెల కాపరిగా దావీదు

దావీదు తన యవ్వన కాలంలో గొర్రెలను కాచుకుంటూ గడిపిన ఆ సమయం కేవలం ఒక వృత్తి కాదు, అది దేవుడు ఏర్పాటు చేసిన ఒక వ్యూహాత్మకమైన శిక్షణాలయం. లోకం దృష్టిలో అతను కనీసం ఒక పక్క పాత్రగా కూడా గుర్తించబడలేదు. ఎవరూ గమనించని ఆ మారుమూల ప్రాంతాల్లో, ఎవరికీ తెలియని ఒక సాధారణ వ్యక్తిగా అతను తన బాధ్యతను నిర్వర్తించాడు. దేవుడు తరచుగా సమాజం ఇంకా గుర్తించని వారిని, అంటే "పరిధుల వెనుక" (Periphery) ఉన్నవారిని తన గొప్ప కార్యాల కోసం ఎంచుకుంటాడు. ఈ పరిధుల వెనుక ఉండటం అనేది ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన స్థితి; ఇక్కడ ఉన్నవారు ప్రశంసల కోసం ఆరాటపడరు, కానీ దైవిక క్రమశిక్షణలో రాటుదేలుతారు.

• ముక్కుసూటి నిలకడ: ఒంటరితనంలో కూడా దేవునిపై ఆధారపడుతూ, కఠిన పరిస్థితులను ధైర్యంతో ఎదుర్కోవడం.

లోకం ఎవరినైతే విస్మరిస్తుందో, దేవుడు వారిని తన హృదయానికి హత్తుకుంటాడనేది దావీదు జీవితం మనకు చాటిచెబుతుంది.

 దైవిక ఎంపిక: సమూయేలు మరియు దేవుని పిలుపు

దైవిక ఎంపిక అనేది కేవలం మానవ అంచనాలకు అందేది కాదు. సమూయేలు ప్రవక్త ఇశ్రాయేలుకు కొత్త నాయకుడిని వెతకడానికి బయలుదేరినప్పుడు, దేవుడు ఆయనకు కేవలం దిశానిర్దేశం చేసి వదిలేయలేదు; ఆ అన్వేషణలో దేవుడు స్వయంగా సమూయేలుకు తోడుగా నడిచాడు. లోకం ఎవరి గురించి అయితే ఇంకా ఆలోచించడం మొదలుపెట్టలేదో, దేవుని కన్ను అప్పటికే వారిపై నిలిచి ఉంటుంది. దీని ద్వారా మనం నేర్చుకోవలసిన ముఖ్యమైన విషయం ఏమిటంటే—మనం మన పిలుపును వెతుక్కునే ప్రయాణంలో ఒంటరి వాళ్లం కాము. దేవుడే మనల్ని చేయి పట్టి ఆ వివేచన వైపు నడిపిస్తాడు. ఈ ప్రాచీన వృత్తాంతం మనకు ఒక గొప్ప భరోసాను ఇస్తుంది: మన ప్రయాణం ఎక్కడ మొదలైనా, దేవుని మార్గదర్శకత్వం మనల్ని సరైన సమయానికి సరైన స్థానానికి చేరుస్తుంది.

 ముగింపు: మన పిలుపును అందుకోవడం

మనం అందరి ముందు వేదికపై వెలుగులో ఉన్నా లేదా ఎవరికీ తెలియని మారుమూల ప్రాంతంలో మన బాధ్యతలను నిర్వర్తిస్తున్నా, ప్రభువు నిరంతరం మనకు తోడుగానే ఉంటాడు. మన వ్యక్తిగత పిలుపును గుర్తించి, ఆయన చూపిన మార్గంలో నడవడమే మన జీవిత పరమార్థం. మనల్ని మనం దేవుని బలిపీఠం (Altar) వద్ద సమర్పించుకున్నప్పుడు, ఆయన మన కళ్లను తెరిచి మన చుట్టూ ఉన్న అవకాశాలను, బాధ్యతలను చూపేలా చేస్తాడు.

మన ఆధ్యాత్మిక ప్రయాణానికి దిక్సూచిగా నిలిచే మూడు సత్యాలు:

• దేవుడు మనుష్యుల లాగా పైరూపాన్ని చూడడు; ఆయన హృదయాంతరాలలోని నిబద్ధతను మరియు అంతరంగ శుద్ధిని గమనిస్తాడు.
• మనం ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా, ఏ స్థితిలో ఉన్నా, మనల్ని బలిపీఠం వరకు నడిపించే బాధ్యతను దేవుడు తీసుకుంటాడు.
• మన పిలుపును మనం భక్తితో అందుకోవడమే కాకుండా, ఇతరులలో దాగి ఉన్న దైవిక ఉద్దేశ్యాలను గుర్తించి వారిని ప్రోత్సహించాలి.

ఓ ప్రభువా, మమ్మల్ని బలిపీఠం వద్దకు నడిపించు. మా కళ్లను తెరిచి, పరిధుల వెనుక నీవు సిద్ధం చేస్తున్న అద్భుత కార్యాలను చూసే శక్తిని మాకు ప్రసాదించు. నీ పిలుపును వినమ్రతతో స్వీకరించడానికి మాకు సహాయం చేయుము. నీ నడిపింపు మరియు తోడు మాకు నిరంతరం అండగా ఉండును గాక. ఆమేన్.

Finding the Light in Quiet Places: The Calling of the Unseen

Last year, my family and I sat in a crowded theater in Branson, Missouri. We were there to see the story of David brought to life by Sight & Sound. It was a grand spectacle. The lights were dazzling. The music was powerful. My favorite part was watching the sheep run up and down the walkways. They were well-trained and perfectly choreographed. This high-production show makes it easy to see David as a superstar. We imagine him always under a spotlight. But the historical reality was much quieter. David did not have an audience in the fields. There was no music or applause while he watched his flock. True greatness often begins in the silence, far from the bright lights of the stage. If we want to find the real David, we have to look past the curtain and toward the quiet edges of the story.

In the book of 1 Samuel, David starts on the periphery. He was not the star of the show. He was not even a side character. When Samuel came to find a king, David’s own family forgot to invite him. He was effectively non-existent to the search party. There is a deep, quiet power in being unnoticed by the world. Those who skirt the edges are often the ones the Lord is preparing for the greatest tasks. Many people on the periphery would actually prefer not to be on stage. They find contentment in the shadows. David’s early life was defined by this humble, hidden dedication:

• He tended the sheep during the heat of the day.
• He kept watch through the long, lonely hours of the night.
• He remained invisible to those looking for a leader.

He was forgotten by men, but he was known by God. The Lord’s gaze moves steadily toward those who are not yet standing in the lights of the world.

The interaction between Samuel and the Lord shows us how God sees. Samuel looked at the outside. God looked at the heart. It was a partnership of divine discernment. The Lord did not just give Samuel a command; He accompanied him. He walked with Samuel to ensure the right person was chosen. This divine presence changed everything for the one who called and the one who was called. It reminds us that God is always working behind the scenes.

The Lord calls those we are not aware of yet.

This realization invites us to pause. We must look at our own lives differently. God is searching for hearts, not resumes. Our purpose does not depend on who sees us, but on who sent us.

This shepherd’s call is still happening today. Your value is not tied to public recognition. You may feel like you are working in the dark. You may feel like no one notices your sacrifice. But the Lord accompanies you in every role. He walks with the famous and the forgotten alike.

The Path of the Limelight Some are called to be "on stage." These individuals serve as the visible face of a mission. It is a heavy responsibility. The Lord provides the strength to handle the pressure of public service.

The Path of the Periphery Others are called to the edges. They tend to their responsibilities day and night without an audience. This role is not inferior. It is vital. The Lord is just as present in the quiet fields as He is in the crowded theater.

Neither path is better than the other. Both require a heart ready to serve. As we look at the world around us, we must learn to see as God sees. We should celebrate the light, but we must also honor those in the shadows.

The story of David teaches us that the Lord leads those on the periphery just as much as those in the light. We are called to accept our own place and to encourage others to do the same. When we value the unseen, we align our hearts with the heart of God.

A Prayer for Open Eyes

Lord, accompany us to the altar and open our eyes to the periphery. Enable us to accept your call and encourage others to accept it, too. Thank you for leading and guiding us. Amen.
